Question about recall on 2011

This is about the pinion nut recall....My son has a 2011 Ram (he bought used) and asked the dealer about the recall on the pinion nut. They told him there was no fix for it yet. WTH???

Has anyone had the recall and got it done?

Until you get an answer, you can do a search on pinion nut recall and you'll get a ton of info on it.

got the recall a long time ago...

at the time there was no fix, was just a "notification" that there was a problem. Never did hear another thing about it up to and including the day i traded it in for my '13 a few weeks back.

I have done a search...everyone talks about it but haven't read of a job that was actually done.

Maybe I missed something.

I have had the recall completed on my truck.

I am here in NC and it took a while but they got it done.

I have a 2011 also and have been waiting impatiently since I received the recall notice.

Last week I got a notice from my dealer in which they were advertising additional services for my truck and that while there they would look at the recall notice. While scheduling I asked how long the work would take and the service guy couldn't tell me much of anything.

I scheduled time off work to bring it in on Monday and hang out for who knows how long. Well that really pissed me off a bit so I started digging a bit more. I eventually called Chrysler today and they said, heck no, no parts available yet!!! DANG DEALERS!

Chrysler did tell me that they are currently expecting to mail notices starting on 10/21 instructing us how to go about getting the recall done. The call left me with the impression that parts would become more available after 10/21.

the recall has been done 3 times on my '09 Ram

the first time was at 42,000 miles when the dealership tried to tell me that nothing was wrong with my transmission, they changed the drive shaft instead, while it was off they did the recall
the 2nd time was in early July 2013 at 84,000 miles, i had a Pinion Seal leak & to replace the seal, they had to take the nut off & replace it with a new nut, therefore the recall was done again
the 3rd time was at 92,000 miles in late August, the pinion seal was again leaking & they had to redo it again

on each of the 3 invoices, the Recall was stated as being done

the dealerships are just receiving a few of the adhesive patches a month, it is just something like Locktite on some kind of material, that keeps the Pinion Nut from backing off, they are also suppose to replace the nut itself

this is from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, Recalls, Defects & Complaints
http://www.nhtsa.gov/Vehicle+Safety/Recalls+&+Defects

this is part of the Recall
SUMMARY:
Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009-2010, Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks, manufactured from July 1, 2009, through November 30, 2009, because the rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to a lack of adhesive.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning.
REMEDY:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. The recall began on June 17, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.

the dealership in my area asked if i wanted it done when i was dropping my truck off for trans work. i told them sure then they said ok we put you on the waiting list. i asked when should i expect the work to be done and the guy said well considering we have 18 pages of people on the waiting list and have yet to do one idk. i asked well how come you dont know and he said that dodge hasnt made a true fix for it yet. i dont know if the guy was just blowing smoke which is probably most likely since they are the biggest joke of a dealership ive ever encountered.
