Wiring Issues, 01 1500.

I just tried to install a new set of headlamps with leds. I want to wire them to my high beams. I understand that the wiring on these older models work essentially backwards. With three wires(red/org, vio/wht, vio/red) that are all hot at some point.
I was just wondering if anyone knows a way to wire it so that the leds will come on with the brights without having to install a switch in the cab. The closest wiring diagram is:https://w05.dealerconnect.chrysler.c...S/br005004.gif
I've been banging my head on a brick house trying to figure this one out.

I can't help you.. But you may have better luck posting your question in the lighting section.

Best of luck with resolving this problem.:D

Get you a volt meter with some micro clips, the ones that pierce the wire through the shield, and with the brights on, start clipping to wires. With only three of them, it shouldn't take that long to find the hot and the ground. Then splice in to those wires and you should be seeing your LEDs light up with your brights.

Yea, noobie post on my part. Thanks.

The red/org wire is the high beam wire. But the issue with that is with the light switch off it reads 12v so with a constant ground to the leds they will stay on with the light switch off and only turn off when the high beams are on.
The way I'm reading it at the headlight plug is:
lights off: vio/red 12v vio/wht 0v red/org 12v
parking lights on: vio/red 12v vio/wht 12v red/org 12v
headlights on: vio/red 0v vio/wht 12v red/org 12v
brights on: vio/red 12v vio/wht 12v red/org 0v

And just now after typing it down I thought of a possible way. Make vio/wht my hot and red/org my ground. But I'm not sure if the reverse voltage would damage the leds.

No problem, everyone has to figure out the forum at some point or another. usually you get the best answer in this sections as there are usually 'usuals' who specialize in that section hanging out there.

I gave up and just wired it to my parking lamps. If anyone knows for sure how to wire the leds to brights on these trucks I'll consider moving it. but here are some pics:

That's where the LED's are supposed to be, on the parking light circuit.

Sounds like the OP wants to be an indiviualist, and do it their way.

To the OP, I can't answer your original question, but the truck looks good with the new "eyes"
