Sorry I just need to vent...

I'm not one to blow big coin on things like a flatscreen tv but in march I bought an LG plasma 50" because it was a really good deal. I bought LG because everything says they are the best. Well it broke today so I'm really pissed off lol. Hopefully their customer support is good they are supposedly going to come to the house and fix it for free. I just hope it was a freak thing because if it breaks a year from now out of warranty it'll be hitting the curb and I'll take up reading:LOL:

I'm thinking it was just a freak occurrence. My neighbor has had a 50" LG plasma for around 2 years, and no problems. I've had my Samsung 47' plasma for almost 3 years, and I love it.

I have a 47'' RCA that has lasted me for 2 years and it is on very often

Yeah we bought a smaller I think ~30" samsung a few years ago for the bedroom and it's great. The LG was the same price that's why we jumped on it when it was on sale(and also prices are always coming down with technology...) but all the research we did said LG and samsung were the longest lasting/best/fewest problems. I hope it is just a freak thing.

I agree with the freak thing. I have a 55" Panasonic plasma that I have had for two years now. No issues.

They must have been clearancing it. I don't see many new plasmas these days, its all about LED's now, even LCD's are cheaper because of the LED's.

snrusnak 09-11-2013 09:21 PM

Well an LED is an LCD, it's just marketing hype.

Bully's Performance 09-11-2013 09:27 PM

LED is visually better than LCD IMO

Grubrunner 09-11-2013 09:34 PM

No it's not just marketing hype. They are different....

Even though they both use a Liquid Crystal Display, the backlighting is very different. LCD uses Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp [CCFL] using Mercury Vapor [VP] back lighting. LED used Light Emitting Diodes as the backlighting. LED TV's are more efficient too. Not by much, but are nonetheless.

LED backlight TV's will have better clarity that an LCD backlight cannot touch.

Also, I'm a huge plasma TV fan. I won't touch anything else. I'm just about to throw pennies under 20K for five plasma TV's for our new home. I've been researching for almost 9MONTHS. I won't touch anything except a Panasonic or a Samsung. I'm going with Samsung on all five.

I don't know where you've been looking at saying LG is the top choice for plasma. It's not what my months of researching has unveiled.

LG and Samsung combined make over 90% of the LCD and Plasma screens in the world. The new screens go in their flag ship lines. The ones that are over a year old get sold as Best Buy house brand, Vizio etc.

I have had a 55" LG Plasma for three years now. I use it a lot and no problems. One thing I did notice, Plasmas kick out a lot of heat. I am pretty sure it is a fluke.

If I had to do it again I would get an LED. Plasmas work great in dark rooms. I had to pretty much black out all the windows in my living room. My Plasma looks like a mirror with the lights on while it is off.

Grubunner if you want a Panasonic Plasma you better hurry:
