Revers lights wiring diagram

Looking for info on what wires are used for the reverse lights on a 93 w350. The truck has been switched to a flatbed, and looks like the previous owner never hooked up any reverse lights. I found some purple wires in the rear light harness which look like they may be the ones for the reverse lights, but have no power to them. Anyone know where the signal for the lights to come on comes from?

the purple wire should be the backup light wire. there will not be any power there unless you have the truck in running and in reverse.

shouldn't there be power to the wire if the ingnition is on and truck in reverse gear? Also, is there a ground in the wire harness, or does it just ground to the body?

ya there should be. you may want to check for power at the neutral safety switch. could have a bad neutral safety switch or a bad wire somewhere. the backup light shared a ground wire with the turn signals from the factory. you can ground them anywhere on the frame. my auxiliary backup lights on my trucks are grounded to the frame. just make sure you clean up the area that you are grounding them to good.
