stuck in 4th gear
I was towing a small trailer, less then 5000lbs from GNP when the transmission shifted out of tow mode and into 4th gear and warning light came on. Limped into Steamboat Rock SP then just made it home. Took it to dealer and they replaced a solenoid/sensors in the transmission and changed fluid. Truck had just under 15K miles on it. Been driving the truck a week and so far so good. However, when the transmission went bad, I also lost indicators on my dash, i.e., when I shift into reverse The "R" is not lighting up on the dash and same goes with "D" for drive. It did prior to the truck's transmission issues. Both issues reared it's ugly head at the same time. Truck runs OK but if the dash indicators aren't working what else isn't working? Brought the truck in today and dealer couldn't fix and doesn't know what is causing the problem. They shut down the electronic brains and did a restart, plus was on the phone with corporate but they had no answers. They think it may be another plug and play black box which they are ordering. They can't guarantee this will be the fix. Anybody out there have this same problem? Any ideas?

sounds like you need to let them experiment
they will have to find a fix for yours

with my particular transmission issue, a grinding noise going from Park to Reverse
they ended up telling me that they didn't believe that it is hurting anything & to drive it until it breaks, i have the letter from Dodge corporate.
That was at 41,000 miles, i now have over 94,000 miles on it
I am covered if it does let go, both by the records from all the service times, the letter, & i have the Lifetime Drivetrain warranty & the Lifetime MAX Care warranty

"Drive it till it breaks?" Really? That's one helluva way to run a service department. Sounds more like something the crew chief would tell his driver half way through the race.

I just wonder what they actually mean by
LIFETIME Drive Train Warranty
what is a vehicles LIFE ?
?? 100,000 miles ??

yeah exactly and if not the vehicles life then whos?! Larry King?!?! im not liking the sounds of this type of warranty. it sounds like to much of a gamble for me... hahaha lol jk

My 2010 Ram 1500 crewcab 4x4 drove just fine up till this morning . Started it using the remote start and let it warm up for 10 minutes . Jumped in and noticed that it was not responding well to the throttle , then I see its in manual shift mode ( did this on its own ) trans is stuck in 4th gear , wont shift up or down . Pulled over and restarted the truck , still wont shift . Anyone have any ideas ?

the Gen 4 2009 - 2012 Ram transmission, will go into 4th gear when there is a problem.
if it stays in 4th gear, it is called LIMP MODE
when it goes into Limp Mode, the book reads that you should limit your driving & get it to the dealership for repair before it does major damage

The life time warranty covers the truck as long as you own it , according to Dodge customer care everything is covered until the value of the repair is more than the value of the vechile . ie They arent gonna put $9000 dollars into a new motor on a truck only worth $5000 .

You need to have a dealer or shop read the trans fault code(s) to see what's going on. If you're in full limp-in (4th gear only), it's often due to an electrical problem (broken wire, bad sensor) rather than an actual trans failure. You need the code(s) to figure out where to look to find the problem.

Dealer called this afternoon , says its the TIPM . also covered by the Max Care Warranty . Only problem is they can't get a new one till friday , at the earliest .
