aftermarket headlight problem
hey guys i got a problem i need to solve asap. my truck had aftermarket headlights installed before i bought it. they pretty much only have low beams, i took the bulbs out and they are 9005 bulbs, the low beam is the bulb in the aftermarket housing. if both the 9005s are plugged in they do nothing on low beam and very little on high beam. if i have one plugged in it will operate as a normal high beam. whats the deal? ill try to get a bunch of pictures if that will help
alright let me clarify a few things here
-my headlights have little to no difference between high beam and low beam
-the bulbs are 2 wire with 9005 bulbs 90 degree bulbs
-if both are plugged in the high beams arent any higher, theyre just slightly brighter
-if both are plugged in they are off on low beam and super dim on high beam
-if only one is plugged in it is off on low beam and dull but actually high on high beam.
i dont know what to do here guys, i hope someone has a whole bunch of knowledge for me. thanks ahead of time!
It's hard to troubleshoot something like this over the screen. Do you have a meter? It's sounding like you have a grounding issue, but without a test light or a meter, there's nothing you can check. I would say find a friend or a friend that knows a friend that has some electrical know how and have them trouble shoot it with you.
I would start by checking the ground wires because of the lights being dim. After that you need a VOM meter to check for voltage. Check to see if someone screwed with the headlight wires by cutting and splicing them. That's the best help I can give you over the net.
