Need help with RES/Uconnect
I just replaced my RES Base radio with an RES hoping to add Uconnect. I installed the new RES, (purchased from Ebay) This radio came out of a 2012 Challenger. At the same time I installed the Uconnect figuring on getting it programmed at the local dealer. The radio does not turn on, neither does the clock show up. I did not expect the Uconnect to work but did expect the radio to at least turn on.
Question is; will the programming also activate the radio? Or, do I just have a dud radio?
Thank you in advance for any insight.
Who did you buy it from? I just recently went through buying one and having it be a dud.
It would take forever to start up and once it would get going, a lot of the time there would be audio, but nothing on the screen.
I contacted the seller and they were amazingly helpful and I ended up returning it for a refund.
The RES that you purchased that came out of a Challenger is a LOW SPEED CAN BUS unit
you have a Dodge Ram within the years 2009 - 2012, they use a High Speed Can Bus radio
see if you can return it
if you do buy a used RES high speed unit, the external Uconnect Module may or may not work
i don't know if they also need to be the same Bus Speed
if you get a chance to purchase another High Speed unit, these are all 4th Gen Ram stock radios, from cheapest to the best
there are 2 high speed bus RES 130 radios, do NOT get the one without the Phone hard key button
then there are two 430 high speed radios, RBZ & REN, neither have navigation, but both are set up for the tailgate handle mounted Parkview camera
the next radio is the RHB 430N, it has navigation & the same camera can be used with it
the top of the line stock radios are the RHR & RER 730N, both have Navigation & again use the camera, the do not need the Uconnect external module
another thing to check for is the mounting brackets, some are mounted on the top & bottom
the 4th Gen Rams have the brackets on the sides of the radio
check out this site for more info about the stock radios
this site is for the after market radios that you can install
they are listed as either FIT or Modified FIT
I was going to post but it appears that GTyankee beat me to it, so I'll just 2nd what he said.
Thanks guys. I was able to return the radio and got an RBZ out of a 2012 RAM. I just installed it and it does power up. Now all I need is the unlock code. The seller is trying to find it for me. I would like a backup option however.
print a copy of your purchase from eBay, go to the dealer and the service mgr will be able to pull the security code.
Great info! Thanks for the breakdown on these radios.
