Sunroof Noise Normal?

I seem to have the worst luck with my sunroof and dealerships. I had a chatter whenever the sunroof opened in vent mode that I took to Dealership #1. On the third trip, they ordered a seal kit and replaced it on the fourth trip. The fifth trip was to adjust the sunroof as it was partially open even in the closed position. The sixth visit with the same noise is when they finally said it was normal. Took it to dealership #2 and they too said it was normal after listening to a 2013 Ram. The second visit I asked to listen to a 2013 that was dead quiet. After listening to mine make a noise that wasn't present in the 2013, they lubricated the slides and adjusted the glass.

However, whenever the sunroof opens, and occasionally when opening it as a vent, it opens with a bang. Is this what yours does? I'm thinking of taking it looked at. What is causing it to make open so harshly?

It occurs just after 2 seconds and after 17 seconds.

Mine doesn't make that noise at all.

NO, mine absolutely does not do that. It looks like its hitting the cover as it comes down. mine opens silently and flawlessly, that is not right, it should not hit like that when it opens...

Definitely not normal as mine doesn't do that either.

Looks clearly like an alignment issue.

Another trip to your dealership.

"However, whenever the sunroof opens, and occasionally when opening it as a vent, it opens with a bang"

Not on mine. It is quiet as a mouse both opening and closing. Another trip to the dealership (quoting GrubRunner).

So an update to this mess:

Took it in the past Friday and they had it for most of the day. Got it back and the paperwork shows that they removed the entire headliner and tightened up all mounting points as the glass was lose.

When I picked it up, I eagerly went to use it an finally, it was dead quiet as it should be.

However, I went to use it today as we had nice weather today and no go, the damn thing still closes with a thunk in the video. Except this time it's worse as it does it now when the vent closes too (as opposed to the video when it does it when it fully opens).

I'm not going to lie, this is starting to get very frustrating - and this is the second dealership to work on it.

that sounds very frustrating, keep all your paperwork and keep after them until its fixed right.

Mine in my 11 is fine I just wish they put som other type of wind deflector in the front that didn't make the wind noise worse. When I manually fold the deflector down and hold it the wind noise goes away.

Yeah, thats definately not normal.
FWIW it looks like to me it is starting to travel back before it has lowered enough to clear the metal roof.
Either the guides were mounted a little to high or your roof is dented down.

If that was what my sunroof sounded like I dont think I would ever open it! that kind of interference will eventually cause something to fail mechanically.

Hmm.. I have a sunroof/roof related rattle but my sunroof glass does not make any sounds similar to yours and its thump. I'm sorry that they were unable to permanently fix the problem for you. I'm with you.. my Ram has had its roof rattle since I bought it but I've been on the fence about letting them have it to try to fix it. I'm just hesitant due to the fact that she may come home with more problems than she had when I dropped her off. More power to you! I'm hoping that, if you choose to return, that they are able to remedy your problem once and for all.
