Any Tips for Improving Gas Mileage

Well I guess you don't buy a RAM for the gas mileage. I have only now just bought my first because I am off the clock. No particular place to be each day and so I can regulate my use and gas costs. I could have never afforded the gas 10 years ago.

Still, if there are any suggestions how to improve gas mileage I'm listening. I don't jackrabbit from stops, and I coast to stops rather than piling on the brakes at high speed.

It's only days old but it's showing 13.5 average. That's got to improve some I'd think.

I've read some ways to break it in.

Any thoughts on how.

Tonneau cover helped
Got a little over 1mpg better... not much but it counts

tattwo98: Thanks, it's an expensive fix but I guess eventually the money would be recouped. One thing, they sure to improve the appearance. But I'm going to have to put it off for now. I think I got a price of near $1500 painted the color of the truck. I guess there are much cheaper versions that might do the same thing, improve gas. Thanks again.

How many miles do you have on the truck, if its very little, your millage will improve as the engine breaks in, some have indicated it took up to 10k miles before they started seeing some improvements, also right now they will soon be moving to winter gas, expect your millage to go down some more till the summer gas comes out next spring.

Monitor the usage of your right foot.

Thanks guy. The only real answer so far. It's only days old and I haven't driven it that much. Go down? Yipes. It's only getting 13.5 per now? Oh, well, glad I'm in a "no punch the clock" mode at this time in life. Which is one of the main reasons I allowed myself to buy. I knew there was no place I "had" to drive to. Thanks! jack ":-D

You're right, you don't sugar coat it. But that's my MO anyway. I don't jackrabbit from starts, never did, and I don't fly up and pile on the brakes at stops. Other than that I don't know what to do but what I'm doing which is take it easy. ":-\ Jack

1. I can do that to a certain extent being off the clock
2. That ??? Well, I will walk further in the parking lots. This baby's being parked away from the loons that love to play demolition derby on their car and everyone else's. So there's some walking
3. Prius ??? I thought that was a toy, not a car?
