New Clutch but still hard to get in gear
 
Hi. I just bought a used 1998 Dodge Ram reg cab 4X4. Prior to purchasing it I was told a new clutch was put in.

The previous owner believed a slave cylinder may need replaced? or an air bubble may be present and clutch needs bled/bleeded?

When you push the clutch in it feels like there is only an inch or two from the floor on the clutch. The other guy said you can pump it up a little and then it will go into gear easier. With that said it is hard to get in gear.

Also, when you put it in reverse it seems like the truck wants to run away with you or tries to go really fast so we have tried to avoid putting it in reverse.

Any advice or suggestions would be great.

I'd buy a clutch/slave and line as a unit and install it. The throw-out bearing arm may have been in need of changing when the PO changed the clutch.

It could very well be air in the system so you may have to just sit and pump it. There's really no way to bleed it either.

Wish I could be of more help but there are limits over the internet.

I'm having troubles as well, It acts like the clutch isn't disengaging. Few things I was told to look for is a bent clutch fork, and to run the engine while bleeding (vibration will help trapped air). If you pull out the slave, pump it a few times it will force the fluid and any air that may be in there out. Be careful that you keep an eye on the reservoir, and don't pump it fast! Slow and steady! Also, by "Run away" do you mean the pickup is moving or the engine is racing? Hope this helps and I hope you don't have to pull the tranny.

Before replacing anything, bleed the hydraulic clutch first. Its very important to get all the air out. Google the procedure.
