2014 Ram/Jeep Recall

http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2014...r-defects.html

Chrysler is recalling 142,800 vehicles, including the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, because of instrument-cluster defects, the automaker said on Tuesday.

Jeep dealers will update the instrument-cluster and ABS module software on the affected Grand Cherokees.

Ram dealers will update the instrument-cluster software on the affected Ram trucks.

There's only 11,000 Rams involved... The rest are all the Grand Cherokee...

Nice to see that the NHTSA is a "non essential" government agency. IMHO Congress is a non-essential agency

In the case of the 2014 Ram recall, in-plant quality-control personnel discovered instrument-cluster backlighting may function intermittently on certain vehicles. Chrysler says vehicle performance is "unaffected." Chrysler is recalling an estimated 10,800 Ram trucks, most of which are in dealer hands.
"Chrysler Group engineers investigated and discovered the digital memory in some instrument clusters may not activate as intended," the automaker said.
The Ram recall begins in November

Updating software

I just bought a 2014 Ram 2500 and upon registering the electronics (XM radio and Uconnect) I recieved a recall notice on it. Has anyone had this done. My question is do I have to re-register everything and also loose the current settings?

Are you talking about your presets? Make sure you have software version 14.03 installed (latest version). Also ensure that you put a headphone jack into the Aux port and push it in all the way and turn it a few times to ensure the lubricant inside is set properly. Lastly, check your fuse box and push in all the fuses and there have been a few issues of fuses not correctly seated all the way in. I did those things and my presets haven't had the problem again.
