When replacing the front pads on my truck , i had to pry with a large screwdriver to release a stuck caliper, while doing so i noticed i made a tear in one of the pistons dust seal. Do i have to take the piston out to replace the dust seal ? How bad is it if i leave the tear in the dust boot without replacing it?

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the caliper to replace the dust seal. If you don't replace it, over time, all kinds of crap is going to get in there and eventually bind up your caliper.
