Adding Factory Remote Start

Hi all,
I want to install remote start in my 2011 express.
I have brand new fobs and what is called a kin module that is programed to the fobs (the part the key goes into). My new fobs have the remote start sw pad etc. Aside from swapping out my original KIN module from the dash is there something else that needs to be done.
I have heard that the fob factory fob kits (key and module) are different depending on who the manufacturer was and if that is the case there may be different steps to getting the remote start to work. I do not have the hood switch either but can jump for now.
Thanks

I see you are from NY State as I am. Remote is nice on winter days. Glad mine came with it. Hope you get replies.

I had the OEM remote start installed on my 2012 1500. Besides the fobs, ignition module, and hood latch I believe there was also an antenna type thing that was mounted behind the glove box. Then the truck needs to be flashed and have a sales code added in order to make everything work. Your best bet it's to google an OEM remote start system for your truck and take a look at a list of the parts in the kit. Then you'll know what you're missing.

odlaw, check out this website. It has the installation instructions and the parts breakout for the OEM remote start system.

It sounds like it is too late, but you should go with the xpress db-all aftermarket kit. It is strictly plug-and-play. I'm going to pick one up at our Best Buy this weekend. Now that I'm thinking about it, I may have them install it too.

BTW, you don't need any extra remotes. It is set up such that you press your lock button 3 x's and the truck will start right up.

Thanks for all the replies. It appears I cannot use my extra hardware as I do not have access to the dealer stuff etc. I do not understand what database has to be updated nor why unless it is for warranty issues.
I did make a mistake of calling my win module a kin module.
FYI KIN module is for the new keyless ignition or pushbutton start.
Perhaps I will look into the aftermarket xpress db solution.

I hope I have better luck finding a better sounding muffler without needing dealer intervention.
Thanks again for all the info.

I agree with the dball. I installed a lot of them for myself and friends. Never once had a problem. Took 10 min to hook up. And u can program it to turn on heated seats defrost ext. And u can tell it how long to run. I set mine at 15. A friend set his at like 99 mins or something crazy. Cuz he likes to waste gas lol.

Agree with the above, almost 2 years with DB-All, no issues, love the unit.
