Today i had a UT OH WTF is going on ??
Today i had a simple job
I left my place heading towards Yuma Arizona, easy 160 mile trip
I filled up with Arizona Mid Grade gas to save a ton of money
I met with the semi truck driver at a Loves Truck Stop in Yuma & i felt something unusual happen to my Ram
it sort of felt like either the transmission or rear end
I didn't think much about it, vehicles do strange things sometimes
i had to follow the truck for about 240 miles
then a noise started as whine, hardly noticeable at first
i thought i had something strange on my tire, or maybe a tire separating
the noise got louder & i thought WTF
as i continued driving the noise got continually louder & now i was becoming concerned
By the end of the job, the noise was loud enough that i had to turn up my radio. I slid under the rear end & looked around, i could not see any wet areas.
I had another job for tomorrow morning, & i had to let them know that because this noise is really loud, i was not going to be able to do it, it is only about 160 miles one way, but i don't want to break down while on the job
Instead i will be sitting at the dealership, waiting for the Service Writer & Techs to show up
Before i took my July/August vacation, the dealership discovered that i had a pinion seal leak, i drove 6,800 miles on that trip
I returned from the trip & the pinion seal was leaking again
now it is 5,000 miles since that last fix was done & i am wondering, does my rear differential have any fluid in it ??
Tomorrow i will hopefully have some answers
Don't you have the Mag-Hytech rear diff cover like mine? Time to pull the stick! I wonder why they haven't gotten you parts yet. A full rebuild is what you can expect not some patch.
Well, my Ram is still at the dealership
the told me that a bearing went bad in my 3.55 rear end
i asked whether it had anything to do with the pinion seal going out, because they have replaced the seal twice since the beginning of July
So far i have not received an answer, right now they are just saying that it will be fixed at no charge to me.
I immediately thought, DUH, my 2009 came with the Lifetime Drive Train Warranty, of course they are not going to charge me.
I will get an answer about the cause of the rear differential bearing going bad, before i leave the dealership
I am also having my spark plugs replaced while it is in the shop
I supplied my own plugs, that i purchased from Rockauto
i will be taking pix of the plugs that are being replaced, they have been in the engine for 55,000 miles
The Service Writer just called me
he said that they must put Mopar Differential Fluid in my Ram, due to warranty concerns, it could void the rear end part of the warranty if they put Royal Purple back in it
They also said that i could replace it with Royal Purple on my own, just that they could not put it in for me
I have been running it for the past 55,000 miles
Other then that.. They better fix your truck perfect.
enjoying the lifetime warranty?
I am very happy that my '09 came with the FACTORY Lifetime Drive Train Warranty :)
i am not very happy with the TECH that has been assigned to my Ram
2 times he supposedly replaced the Pinion Seal
now he had to rebuild the rear differential :(
when he was looking for the special Lug Nut Tool, he completely trashed the inside of my Ram, i found my AA batteries all over the interior, my $ 1 dollar coins & car wash tokens were also in the front & back of the interior, i will have to look again though out the interior during daylight for more that seem to be missing. My electronic probe tools (2) that had been in the passenger side door pocket were on the floor, etc.
He did put the Royal Purple in the differential for me, he just didn't make any notation of it, i will have to thank him for doing that, when no one else is around :)
As soon as i decide to get off of my butt, i will take a picture of the invoice from yesterday, it has all the parts listed that had to be replaced. The camera is out in the Ram.
Well I am glad that all worked out for you....I would also wonder why my items were scattered all over my truck....Just happy that it worked out.....
spark plugs that were replaced had worn center electrodes at 55,000 miles of use
pix taken at different angles for better viewing
Looks like you got your money's worth out of them plugs. Let's hope this rear end lasts longer than 5K miles.
