Exhaust question

I have a 2012 Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi. It has factory dual exhaust. If I just changed out the muffler (for a magnaflow), would I get the same results as I would if I changed out the whole exhaust from the cat back (again with a magnaflow exhaust system)?

With your truck, yes. No need to do a cat back. Just change out the mufflers.

agreed with roger

If you're looking for performance improvements you wont see much if any with just a muffler swap or a cat back exhaust. You're cheapest route would be to go with just a muffler swap

..yup a muffler swap and a Y pipe (are the Y's pinched in the 4th gen's?)

I'll let you know tomorrow....mine goes in for a muffler swap this afternoon! haha

Only expecting it to sound meaner but any performance gains would be another +

If you want the same performance and sound as a cat back you will want to remove the factory resonators as well. It will do more for sound that performance. IMO there's no need to run resonators with an aftermarket muffler.

As others have stated you will want to swap out the Y-pipe as well to free up a lot of flow in the exhaust system.

the stock Y will be your bottleneck for sure...way back when I did my exhaust the first time I just had my muffler guy stretch a pipe and an make a 'homemade' Y...even back then I could feel the difference.. acceleration felt much smoother...

then I had him change my piping later and still had him make me a Y pipe...

then decided I'll just have it Y'ed within the magnaflow muffler and just dualed it to the muffler..note the H pipe where the old Y would have been...
