Dazed and Confused!
I thought that I had this all figured out. It appears that I do not.

I've been adding some foot well lighting to my Ram. I have the lights mounted where I want them, well close enough based on available places to do so.

I have 'em all wired up, with the exception of terminating the final wire in the little panel on the left side of the dashboard.

(This is the harness that I'm looking to tap into)

Fortunately I didn't tap into anything permanently. I just sort of pushed the wire into the hardness so it was pretty snug. Unfortunately both the yellow AND the yellow white wires appear to be hot at all times.

I've been wracking my brain for the past two hours trying to figure out how to find the proper circuit. If I open the door to test the wires with my meter, the dome light comes on. I haven't been able to figure out how to leave the testing lead connected AND the door closed so that it'll time out.

I'm not sure if this thread is a plea for help, or merely a rant. I will of course welcome any and all suggestions.

I'll post pics of the install if I ever figure out which wire I should be tapping into.

It appears that the problem was my inability to distinguish the difference between the yellow wire and the yellow/ white wire. It's working now.

Below are some really bad install pics. I think judging by the quality of the photos, I'd better stick to driving trains, rather than photography.

This is the passenger side. I enclosed the LED that I had purchased in some wire loom. This made it easier to work with, and I tacked it the other side of the blower motor with double sided tape. I'm not sure if it's good tape or not, it's what came on the back of the LED.

Here is another angle of the same side.

This is the driver side. It tacked up under the steering column. It seemed to be the best place to keep it out of the way. You can just see the black wire loom that I have on that one.

Here is a better look at the wire loom, and it shows how I have the wires tucked up out of the way behind the kick panel for the center console. You can also see the cord for the extension I ran to my lower glove box to power my GPS when the need arises.

I managed to snap a few more pics, these are at night. They also don't do it justice. When I get back home I'll try to take some pics that are taken with a real camera, instead of with my phone.

My wife isn't real fond of the outcome, as she says it makes it look like the floor of the truck is covered in blood. I disagree, I'm quite please with the results, if not the pics.

Sweet, I have the same setup but they are blue, but I put them so they turn on when the engine is running, they are also way toned down so they light up the foot area without bothering the eyes when driving, you only notice them when you look down and being blue on Black unless there is something on the floor you don't notice them.

Not trying to steal the thread, nice setup, sweet install, great mod.:smileup:

Question for ya.. how did you connect power to the passenger foot well? I can see exactly where I want to mount lights and the driver's side seems straight forward since it's right next to the panel and wire looms I need to tap into. My issue is how and where to run the passenger side wire through the center console to tie it in with the driver's side.

I removed my lower glove box, which is just a matter of pushing in on either side so the little divots are out of the way. It then folds down and it can then be easily removed.

Once the glove box is out of the way, you can see that there is a void of sorts behind the center console. I used an old straightened out coat hanger as a fish tape. Once I had pushed the coast hanger through the back of the console, I taped the wires from the passenger side light to the coat hanger and pulled it back through to the driver's side.

Pull out all of the slack, and tie up and secure the wires coming off of the passenger light. I then tucked as much as I could down behind the carpet where it can't be seen.

I had previously ran a power accessory extension cord over to the lower glove box to power my portable GPS (I didn't like it plugged into the center console). I ran the power wire for the passenger side light basically through the same space. If you look closely at the pic below, you can just make out the red wire running along side the coiled extension cord.

I'm currently out of town, but when I return (tomorrow or Tuesday) I will try and get a few additional pics of how I did things. Just let me know if this is something you'd be interested in.

Huh, had no idea that space was there. I've had the glove box out many a time showing friends that my Ram does, in fact, have a cabin filter and have never noticed that before. Cool. I suppose I will be getting my trusty hanger out again.. haven't used it since passing the Big Rig wires through the firewall. Here are a few more pics Kai. I was able to take a few, now that I'm back home.

This is just a general shot of the glove box, once it was removed. Notice the coiled power extension cord sticking out of the void that was previously mentioned.

This one is pretty much the same thing, just zoomed in a little tighter.

This is from inside the glove box opening, looking towards the center console. There is a nicely sized void that allow for the passing of wires from one side of the truck to the other.

This is from the driver's side. It's sort of a revisit of the pics that were posted previously. It does show where the void emerges on the driver's side, and where I have my coiled cable coming out. You can also just see the red wire that I ran for my passenger side light. The other bundle of wires I'm not sure where they go, or what they do. To me they were merely a convenient place to tie everything off with some tie wraps.

Hope the further pics help clarify what wasn't a very clear picture for you.
