trans filter ?s

i have the 2wd 545rfe and i want to put a 4x4 stock pan on it do i need to put the 4x4 filter on it or will the 2wd filter work? is both the filters mount the same way on the valve body?

They mount the same way but the 4wd filter sits lower since the 4wd pan is deeper.

The 4x4 and 2WD filter inlet snouts are in slightly different locations, so if you use the wrong filter / pan combination, you will not be able to bolt the pan on (it will hit the filter inlet snout). So you have to use the 4x4 filter with the 4x4 pan, and vice versa.

Note that we have used the "4x4" pan and filter on ALL RFE transmissions since October 2009, so most 2010 trucks, and all 2011+ models, use the "4x4" version. Also note that we changed to a new common oil pan (which still uses the "4x4" filter) in March 2010. So things can get a little confusing. But basically, if you're using the wrong filter, the pan will bang into the filter inlet snout (before you can get the pan seated up against the case).
