New 9 speed automatic transmission released

According to an article in the latest issue of 'Popular Mechanics' that I am reading, the new 2014 Jeep Cherokee has the industry's first 9 speed transmission. Apparently, Chrysler Corp is on the leading edge of automotive progress.

Old news. They have been talking about this transmission for months. It will also make it's way into some of the car platforms. They actually delayed the press release of the new Jeep Cherokee by a few weeks to work out a few more bugs with this new transmission.

Ford and GM have a joint mission on a 10 speed transmission as well.

Shit, like the old television show, eight is enough.

When they develop a CVT that actually works and does what it is supposed. The whole idea is to keep engines in their most efficient power producing rpm range.
This way engines can be tuned for a narrow range and that would increase efficiency and performance.

going to be awhile for a decent cvt that suit everyone.

they have automatic transmissions available in most semi trucks, and most are garbage, I had a truck one time it was a 10 speed eaton fuller auto, and when at a slight incline hit the throttle nothing press the throttle a little more and bang it just would jump of the line often spilling what ever cargo I had in the trailer, now granted the big truck transmission and car transmissions are two different animals but to me it seems the more gears in an auto the more problems

Yeah, the mission for each transmission is definitely different. I read somewhere recently that you will probably not see much more than 9/10 speeds as the gains beyond that aren't much and you are almost in CVT territory at that point.

this is already on the 2015 chrysler 200s that was just unveiled at the detroit north american auto show.
