Tranny Upgrades

Are there any tranny upgrades available for the 46re? To beef it up? I feel like its a weak point on my truck. Not an automatic fan haha

i hear ya. i have 55k miles and have gone through two trans so far and in my opinion once its rebuilt its never the same... one thing you can get is a new valve body from moes performance. they are supposed to really strengthen it.

Valve bodies do not strengthen a transmission. A properly modified one will, however, improve performance and contribute to longer life.

A couple examples of what's out there to improve actual strength with better guts.

You're right a valve body wont "strengthen" the trans but it will reduce slipping resulting in longer life on the clutch packs.

Gen1dak is right though swapping out the whole trans is the better way to go especially since a built one is actually not that expensive for a transmission. IMO if you are planning on simple mods ie. intake exhaust tune TB i think you would be fine with just a VB upgrade but if you have the money, time, and know how, a full trans swap would be your best bet.

Where can i buy VB upgrades?

Gen1dak 10-30-2013 12:22 AM

Jegs, Summit, PATC, eBay, you name it. There are kits by TransGo, Superior, Fairbanks, even B&M finally got into the game. All the kits are basically the same deal. Level 1 for HD work, Level 2 is Street/strip performance, Level 3 is Full race.
