Ambush in the Back Country

The guy finally got convicted so I can talk about this now. Three years ago my son's and I were scouting a couple of weeks before deer season. The dirt road was on the side of a mountain one lane wide and thousands of feet straight down. We came to a tunnel of trees and could not see in because it was so dark. I crept in when baggies with some sort of liquid fell from the trees. I had no idea what to make of it. Some idiot comes out of the trees with a shotgun and say's, "you're not the guys I'm looking for" and motions me forward. I ran over the spike strip he left and my right rear tires immediately went flat. Then I had to get the log that he blocked the road with out of the way. Then the truck was fish tailing off of the edge because I'm riding on the rim and can't control the truck on the narrow road. I got out and got my boys and dog into the woods. I loaded my rifle and hand gun and began to try to change the tire. I called 911 and they sent a helicopter to me. I got the tire changed and we got out of there. Took three years to get this guy convicted. I was trying to be a good citizen and not drive with a concealed weapon and had them properly stored. The deputies told me never to do that again. When in the back country lock and load. Here is the newspaper story.

That's quite a story and can't imagine how unnerving it must have been. Especially when the children are present and the parental instinct to protect them kicks in.

I give you a lot of credit for keeping your cool and handling the situation in a manner that they will have the ability to emulate at a critical time.

:smileup::smileup: for keeping your head

:smileup::smileup: for reporting it

:smileup::smileup::smileup: for keeping the story to yourself for so long.

Cajon Pass is almost like being on the edge of the world, no wonder you wanted to hunt in there
Glad that you all got out of there alright, not the best place to get stranded for whatever the reason

This is what the cannibus news wrote about it

Oh wow, that is definitely a story and scary as heck to find yourself part of it! I can't even imagine but that would have freaked me the heck out! So glad for you and your sons/dog that you kept your cool and were able to handle the situation and get out of there safely, even better to hear they caught and convicted that creep!

He got sentenced yesterday. One year in the pokey and one strike. Then 3 years probation and any violation is a strike. He already had a federal strike. So, if he screws up in any way he'll never see the light of day again.
