Just had torque converter replaced
I have had my 2010 Ram 1500 Bighorn 4x4 since new, and over the summer I pulled two RV's that were 33 feet in length. Shortly after, pulling my boat or even normal driving I heard a weird exhaust noise and couldn't figure it out, so I found info on the web and found the starcase for the torque converter. Sounded exactly like my issue, so I took it to my dealer (I have 56000 miles on it and never heard the noise until this summer) and gave them the starcase info and asked them to check it out. Within an hour they said they would replace the torque converter and it would be done by the next afternoon. And it was. They replaced everything under warranty, no issues, no questions asked, unbelievable. I took it home, no more noise, full day driving today, no more noise. Except for one bolt they forgot to tighten on top of the bell housing, everything was put back nicely. Amazing. I am mentioning all of this because had it not been for pulling a substantial amount of weight with my truck I may not have ever known that I had the defective part until some time after my warranty was up. So I felt it was necessary to give you guys a heads-up to check it out before your warranty goes out. My boat apparently wasn't heavy enough to bring on the noise, or maybe pulling the RV's was just a coincidence and the noise was going to develop inevitably anyway. Big job, check yours and get it fixed. One thing I did notice, however, is the truck now shifts like a wimp from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, noticeably different from before...

Did you pull in (Tow/Haul) mode? I would make sure that the ATF+4 got replaced as well as filters and magnet cleaned. Apples and oranges, but I tow a 10,000 lb fifth wheel 32' long without any issues, just put her in tow/haul. I know things have probably changed from my old 545RFE to your truck. Might be a good time for a trans temp gauge, even a deeper pan like a Mag Hytec.

The truck made the noise in tow/haul mode and regular mode both. It was at a specific rpm range. Just as loud in tow/haul mode. I didn't ask if they changed the filter and fluid. Truck comes with factory trans temp guage, which never went over the halfway mark (can't remember actual temperature reading). Truck always tows heavy loads very well, I love it. Just a defective torque converter with too high of tolerances inside that became apparent this summer whether it was a result of towing or not. I do like the sound of a larger trans pan, never a bad idea I guess. I have added trans coolers to my previous trucks as well, but this one seems to tow with ease at good temps.

Another 2010 Torque Converter Replaced
Just picked up mine up yesterday. Started with a hunting of RPM during convertor lock-up and a shutter when trying to lock up. Here is the unfortunate part, I was only 3,000 miles (which is 5 weeks for me) over 100,000 miles, that's right 103,000 and RAM customer Service would not even discuss any help nor allow me to appeal to a higher level. Cost me $1535.00. You would think that if they weren't going to assist, they would at least discuss it with you as to their position but nope, just "we can not assist you".
I love my truck, it is clearly a part failure of which you have no control over. I am seriously sick !
SO if you expect loyalty consideration from RAM, think again and if you experience any of my symptoms, don't think it is the MDS and not the transmission just because it is not slipping. Get it addressed or reported before warranty because to my disbelief there is no policy or compassion available to assist you.
