Oversize Loads that i have escorted

Seeing that Matt has not posted any of his current loads for several months

I decided to start posting some loads that i have recently escorted, starting with 2 pix of my Ram in work mode

on Wednesday i got a call to do a job, the call was to go to a local crate maker
the Box Maker had received an order to design, build, & test a box for traveling around North America, it will contain some kind of educational equipment to show what is going on in the Aerospace Industry, possibly for a company called SpaceX http://www.spacex.com/

This BOX is 15' 8" WIDE, it takes up a bit less then 2 highway lanes
you will notice it if it is on the same highway as you are

i am not positive, but i believe that the guy standing in front of the truck with his back towards us, is a guy that just bought a 2013 or 2014 Ram
He may be one of our newest members, i mentioned this forumZ to him

That's one big ass box! How far did you escort it? From where to where?

Nice pics, thanks for sharing!

GTyankee 12-02-2013 04:57 PM

I didn't follow it to far all together
the first run was a test run to see how the crate rode on a highway at 55 mph
we drove about 40 miles round trip & returned to the crate builders
the pix are of the truck pulling into the driveway
The company then disassembled the roof panel & removed all the testing weights from the crate, they made a few improvements to the crate to keep it from racking even a little bit.
Then we delivered the crate to another location about 25 miles away
The actual driving maybe took 1 1/2 hours, disassembling & reassembly took almost 4 hours :(

That is a serious box lol.. And GT, your trucks work mode is pretty sweet. Did you get the backrack for the sign custom made?

GTyankee 12-05-2013 07:28 PM

I had the upper part of the sign made when i still used my 1999 Chevy 1/2 ton to do escorting
when i bought the Ram, i had to get the lower piece custom made to fit the Rams bed.
A guy that used to work for Fiberwerx, built the lower piece http://fiberwerx.com/model/ram/ , they are located here in town

i really liked how he molded the piece to the bed rail

this is how it looks without the upper sign part on, i take it off for vacationing

this is with the sign lowered

Your sisters house looks amazing btw. And that is an awsome set up you got going on for your bed, especially with the cover set to go around the the bars.

I had to escort 1/2 of a Manufactured House, (trailer), two 14' wide sections, only had to follow them about 190 miles, we got a little over 1/2 way to the destination & the wind was blowing so hard that the trailer was sideways going down the highway, i told the trucker pulling the load that IF he kept going the trailer would be airborne. He called the other driver & it was agreed that they needed to find a place to pull over, where the wind could not blow it over.
Now tomorrow hopefully, we can get both pieces delivered, the wind is suppose to blow again tomorrow & it was 28F . I took a quick pee & i thought i had gauged the wind correctly, NOT !!! :(
