Quick question for you all about towing!!

I got a buddy wanting me to go pick up a small dozer 6,000 lb. plus trailor I'm guessing 7,000 lb all together I have 2010 ram 1500 crew cab with coils would I be ok to haul this with making sure not to much tongue weight and only about 120 miles ? Don't want to excuse my language but **** anything up for some extra spendin cash

Thanks
Jason

You will be close. Keep in mind you have to take in consideration the wieight of the trailer as well.

trailer brakes ? do you have a controler ? what type of hitch ?

I hauled 7k without my TLC, and i will never do it again. Truck did it, but it rode and drove like a bag of smashed ass. Powertrain wise you are good, you got the power for it, its them damn coils back there that screw everything up. The good news is there is a fair amount of rake in the truck, so you never truly SAG in the rear, just level out. Even bottomed out, my ass end didnt sit lower than my front.

This is with Total Load Control:

And without (same trip):

I ended up flipping my ball mount over so it was a 2" raise instead of a 2" drop just to get the trailer level. Like I said, I towed without TLC the last 1000 miles of my trip due to a failed airbag (my fault). The issue has since been remedied.

anything over 2000lbs should have a weight distributng hitch, no wonder the above post rode like azz

You've got that car way too far forward on that trailer. FWD compact car has about 70% of it's mass over the front wheels, and you've got it right on the head board. Probably double the tongue weight than is advisable.

yea I agree the car isnt loaded correctly. the car should be back a good foot.

Just doing some rough mental math, you have about 1200lbs on the tongue of that trailer. Ideally it should be about 400 lbs for that combination.

It is the CLIV that comes stock on the Rams, and a rental trailer.

Yes, I am aware of that, however, due to the design of the rental trailer, you cannot strap the car down unless the front wheels are at the chocks, all the way forward. I tried loading it with the rear end at the hitch, and the trailer whipped all over the highway. Uhaul even said the car had to be loaded this way.

The car IS loaded correctly, due to the design of the car hauler, doing what you have said is impossible. I am aware that it was not an ideal situation, however I wasn't in a position to change the design of the trailer, as it wasnt mine.

I have a pinnal hitch high as it will go went to get the dozen and ended up not hauling it back I don't think the weight will be a prob. It's just gonna work the shit out of everything so I don't think I'm going to haul it up next go around it will be on a dual axel trailor I had to set the pinnal high because even with no weight it swayed like a sob when I raised it, she road like a dream the tuner I got I set to tow and was very impressed with the mileage it got even with an empty trailor I'd say it ways about 1500 at the least so ( thinking of air suspension in future) any input on that?
