I cut my stock antenna!

Hey guys,

So I had the stubby antenna for a while and although I love the look, I didn't care for the quality of the radio reception with it...which was basically none. So I read around and saw where a couple guys cut their stock antenna but none of them really gave any reviews afterward. Well, I cut mine today down to about 8 inches or so...I haven't reattached the ball yet, but the reception probably went back to being 90% like stock...I just put it on and sat in the truck with the radio on and went through some stations...Im fixing to go for a drive so I'll give a little better review when I get back, but I'll be painting it black tomorrow and calling it a day!

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I could see this being done in my very near future. Right now, time for a beer! :beerchug:

Looking forward to the pics - you are posting pics, right? - and the better review.

Definitly want to know how this turns out. And same as above would like to see pics when it finished. I had a stubby but the reception wasnt that good and have been looking for other options.

Lol, Ya I'll get a pic up probably tomorrow once Im finished. As for the better review...I live in a neighborhood that is surrounded by trees so once I got out of there and on the main road reception seemed to be a bit better. If I had to guess, I would guestimate my reception with the antenna as it is right now to be about 85% like stock. I get more of my channels I listen to now as opposed to with the stubby. A few stations are still a little static, but it's not bad and you can still listen to the station. Definitely a good option for those of yall like me who hate the long whip antenna but don't want to lose reception. I'm going to try and get the ball off then end of the piece I cut and put it on the antenna now and see if that helps anymore. I'll check back in tomorrow with results and pictures...

Here's some pics. I couldn't find the little ball to put back on this. I plast-dipped it but when I was putting it back on it peeled so I pulled it back off. I also just found this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Billet...-/351046899827 which Im really thinking about ordering. Here's my pics -

Looks like a nice antenna, but you might want to think twice about that one. Unless that model comes with 2 other adapters, it's not going to fit. I went through the order process just to see if it would offer me a generational selection, but it did not.

i'm just going to stick with the antenna I have now. The radio reception is back to a level where I can listen to MOST stations again so I'm happy with it. I'll get some black spray paint coming up and just paint it. But for anyone who wants to do this, you see my antenna I cut down to 6.5 inches...so I would imagine if you even went down to 10" and got the ball reattached your reception would probably be really close to like stock!

I love the stripes! I get more compliments on them than I do nay sayers. It just helps break up all the white.

Just another update, I've done a good bit of driving around the past couple of days and I must say, my reception seems to have gotten better than when I first cut the antenna. Just about all the stations I listen to come in either 100% clear, or have very little static. So this is definitely a good option for those of you wanting to get rid of the long antenna but not have to buy anything new.
