2006 4x4 question

Hello,
This may be an odd question to you guys but I am new to the dodge and truck world and do not know what the proper way to operate the 4 wheel drive system. I have the knob selector switch which i know I can turn but I do not know the procedures. Please advise to the proper way the system should be operated. I am also curious as to what the nuetral indicator means?

thank you
shane

Before you go any further, read your manual before you wind up frying your transfer case.

This is how you would usually shift it into 4wd.

-Place your foot on the brake and shift the truck into Neutral.
-Use the knob to turn the truck into 4wd
-Allow time for electronic transfer case to get its act together and actually work
-Get some coffee/ Do your taxes
-Return to truck to see if 4wd has engaged

Well, despite the tongue in cheek comments by the Aggie, that's what you should do. :smiley_thumbs_up:

4x4 question

Hey thanks for the info.. I was looking at the book and if I read it right it said you could be traveling up to 40 mph and take your foot off the gas and then switch it in.

Is this true?
thanks,
shane

A lot of automatic hub 4X4 systems will allow you to switch to 4HI while moving but never 4LO, Shane.

I wouldn't make a habit of doing it at the 40 mph limit all the time but you should be good doing it at lower speeds as many times as you need to. This comes in handy when you are traveling in areas where the pavement can change from dry to wet to icy as you change elevation.

RED FLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:SHOCKED::SHOCKED: :SHOCKED::SHOCKED::SHOCKED:

Don't try it. While it may "work" you're really asking for problems. Just stop the truck and switch it in to 4wd. Transfer cases are finicky little buggers.
