DiabloSport Predator usability
I picked up one of these U7137 bad boys. I did all the updating and installed a tune on my 05 ram hemi. Can I back-up my original tune onto the computer and then use the Predator on my brothers 04 hemi? Or are these a single vehicle use?

single use - it must be set back to stock before loading onto another truck

So there is no way of loading the back up stock tune from the truck, onto a pc and then using the device on another vehicle? I know that they would want to make as much money as possible from selling more than one device and having one person go around changing the tunes on other vehicles... but there must be some way around only being able to use it on one truck...

sorry, let me explain a bit more.

You can take it from truck to truck - but you have to set the truck back to stock before you move on. You don't really need to save it to your computer, the DSP will read it again each time you tune.

So, yes - you can use it on multiple trucks, just not at the same time.

..yup it vin locks to any truck it tunes...when set back to stock, releases the lock and can be used on any other truck and will lock itself to the next tuned vehicle...

Interesting... SO in that case I guess I am SOL.. ;) What tunes is everyone running on their hemis with the Predator? I just installed the 93 Octane tune, but want to try a few over a course of a few months... looking for ideas... this is just my daily driver and I'm not hauling anything that often. Maybe for MPG what should I be looking at doing... if there is such a setup.

Yep, pretty much SOL there buddy. As explained, one vehicle at a time. As soon as you plug it in, it reads the VIN and that's the only vehicle it will work on until you download the stock tune back to that vehicle.

93 CAI octane tune is a good one. There are tuning options, such as an authorized DiabloSport CMR tuner (done on a dyno by an independent shop) or there are several firms that will do a tune by email. They'll want your stock tune file (you can extract it from the Predator) plus some logs of you running around town, pulling hills, a few WOT passes, things like that. Then you email them those files and they will build a tune.

A full CMR runs from around $350 to $450 depending on time spent on the dyno. An email tune will run from $200 to $250 (maybe a bit less) and a lot of the tuners will tweak on the base tune they give you a few times. All they want is some more logs to see how the engine is running.

To maximize MPG, two things need to happen. One - the tune will be a bit lean and will not be optimum for power. Two - Watch that right foot!

im runnin a custom cmr tune on my na hemi dyno's at 369rwhp/390rwtq, 8.30 1/8th, 13.10@103 in the 1/4

Heres an idea.. not necessarily that it will work.. but hey.. got me thinking.. If I was to buy two Predators... I use one to save and load stock to 93 octane tune... then use the second to save the 93 octane tune as the stock backup... then use the other to revert it back to stock from the 93 octane tune.. and then go back on with the 2nd programmer and use it to flash back what it thinks is the stock tune, but really is the 93 octane tune... That way, you then still have two programmers to use.. so in total you could program as many vehicles as you wanted... make sense?
