Nut? Oh Nutz!!
I am tackling the upper and lower ball joints and the front axle joints on my 2004 ram 2500 4x4. I have spent, about 8 hours, and have gotten no where, so now I am looking for advice.

I am having problems getting the half shaft nut (according to FSM) off to be able to get the hub off and then be able to take the others apart. This nut seems to be seized on there, and the fsm is saying tighten it to 180 ft lbs? That seems way to tight for this nut, and also, i can't get it off. The first problem is I can't find a socket big enough, no one carries it! It is about 44mm, measured with a caliper, and I have tried several things to budge it. Any ideas? Has anyone done one of these? The ball joints and the axle joints (u joints) will be easy and not take long, i just can't get the hub off to get the other parts off and get the ball joints out.....

Any Suggestions?

You need a Impact Gun or allot of Leverage.......Get some EMT Conduit in 1" or 2" and cut so that you will be able to use a good long piece for leverage.

I can't find a socket big enough to take off the nut, and then put it back on.....this one might be one that I have to take to the dealership, no one has a socket big enough or the right kinda...... i have a 7 foot pipe that I will use for leverage, used it before on things.

not sure on size but i think its 1 11/16 or a 42mm try car quest but its pricey $50-60 and stick a long screwdriver through the u joints to stop the spin and use a breaker bar when u get the nut off there is 3 more on the back side then beat it off and when u put the nut back on dont put it at 180 i couldnt line up the cotter pin and the nut
