my 09 does the same thing , as soon as the pump stops on its own thats it... if i try to add anymore than its running down the side of the bed.

I know this is an older post (really old), but I was looking through the old stuff and found it, may have some helpful info for some people. I have an 08 as well (bought in '10), and had this same problem. Took it to my local dealer, they looked at it and basically said that everything they tested came out fine, there's no fix for it, and just to be really careful and slow down the gas flow toward the end when filling up.

normally if it's doing that the vent tube is plugged. but i think another part of the problem is on the 07-08 the vent tube is a little bit too small. mine does the same thing if i hear a light gurgling i gotta stop the pump because it's about to overflow.

There is a fix, my 10 had to get a new gas tank installed and that cured the problem. It is the vent tube is not working properly.

Dodge has a huge problem with this my Dodge Nitro had this problem after many times to the dealership they replaced the fuel tank. There is a check valve that isn't working properly. I told the dealership while it was still under warranty to replace the tank but they have to follow certain steps. Here is a video of what happens. It wasn't the pump I was using it happened at all of them I used. skip ahead to 50 seconds and you will see.
