2000 2500 4X4 rear brakes
Just want to make sure I don't do anything wrong. How do you take off the brake drums on the rear and do you have to do bearings or anything at the same time
one word: carefully.
Taking the drum off is actually straight forward. After removing the tire and spacer if so equiped, just tap off the drum from behind with a hammer. As soon as you do this, take pictures so you have a reference for where all your springs go. There should be 4-5 and they need to match up with the plates after you get the new shoes in. If it's your first time pulling drum breaks, a digital camera will be your best friend.
Oh, and to get the springs back in place, a small flat blade screwdriver will help you stretch and slide the spring end into it's hole.
It's a good chance you won't need rear brakes . My truck has 140,000 miles on it and still has the original rear brakes . They still look great . Everything is working fine . There is nothing else you need to do . It's pretty much straight forward .
