Oil in 2005 Dodge ram?.
I bought this truck used, and its coming due for an oil change. Any ideas on what oil to put in it? Iv'e heard if it hasn't had the syntec blend since it's; been new that putting that in it now won't do much. But I have no idea what oil is in it now.

Thanks guys

How many miles are on the truck?

I would put a good quality synthetic in it . I personally run Amsoil in all my rides . Your hemi will love it . Excellent friction and wear reducer and besides no crude in it .

52,000. I boughtit with like 49,000. I drive a lot. :\

Sorry if the question was dumb..but I know you guys own trucks and I'm new to the whole thing. :)

There are no dumb questions here (well most of the time) . No reference to you . Your still reasonably low mileage . I would convert it over to a good synthetic now . You'll be fine . My vehicles go 20,000 miles between oil changes because of the synthetic . I still change the filter every 5,000 miles and keep it topped off . If your interested in Amsoil check them out at

They can go that far between oil changes?

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

• Severe Service(4) – Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

I'd switch to the AMSOIL synthetic as well. i run it in my '07 and love it. Put it in when I got it and still haven't needed to change it 17,000 kms later.

Can you buy it at stores? Or does it need to be ordered off the website? I know someone whose a mechanic who might be able to get it for me, if need be.

If a truck is running regular oil can it be switched to synthetic?

Yes , it's compatible with all oils . No problem . Most parts stores in my area do carry it . Not all . On there is a spot for dealer locator . You need to put in your zipcode and will tell you where a dealer is closest to you . Just tried the dealer locator , and it shows individual dealers in your area . Might be better off calling some stores .
