You guessed it... another exhaust ?

Exhaust systems are a little out of my area of operation when it comes to cars, so some help is needed here.

Looking for the most bang for the buck (sound and quality, louder is better) so to speak without going 'True Duels'.
-I'm wanting to go with the Flowmaster Super 44 Series Muffler (Single In, Duel Out)
-As for the pipe it's a toss up between the traditional 2.5" pipe or 3" pipe
-Tips will be either 3.5" or 4"
-Headers?
-Y Pipe?

As well as what setups are you already running on your Hemis? Price Range?

Got a HEMI?

chithead 10-30-2009 12:57 PM

Yeah, it's got a HEMI.

Sorry, I always wanted to say that! 2.5" pipe with 3 1/2" tips is perfect! Had that on my 2004 with the HEMI.

I forgot to include that...:wow:
But yes, it's a completely stock 2008 5.7L V8 HEMI

Any change to anything else for the exhaust or did you keep it stock? What muffler are ya' running?

Headers are always nice, but will probably void that Lifetime powertrain warranty...

I had the Delta Flow 50 series, 3" in, dual 2.5" out. Had a decent tone, but got mucho loud two years later.

OK...in answer to your questions:

Don't go too large in pipe size as you'll lose some low end torque. 2.5 - 2.75" seems to work best with most small block engine. The tip size doesn't matter.

Headers are a good thing to do. I like JBA headers a lot!

If you have a HEMI, Flowmaster makes two catback systems, no 17423 & 17424, that will fit your truck. They run from just under $500 to $570 retail per their site pricing. A local shop can probably get it cheaper for you.

Oh, and check with your Mopar dealer. They may have a set of headers as a Mopar accessory and they warrant them...no worries on your powertrain warranty!

Mopar ! Headers ! Betchya they cost a arm and a leg .

2008 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 5.7L HEMI

So I did my homework a little further and this is where it has brought me...

I've decided to try and go 'TRUE DUEL'
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5913/new2xl.jpg
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/742/new1r.jpg

My main concern for now is if its even possible to run two 2.5" pipes with this current setup I have. As well as squeezing in another muffler back there... Anyone who has any experience with putting true duels on a truck setup like mine please let me know.

Another concern, the two 2.5" Super 44's that Flowmaster offers neither of them are listed as being able to fit a Dodge Ram of any year make or model. Here are their part #'s: 842546, 842548
I don't think changing pipe size is really an option here either. So until I take this truck to the muffler shop to get them to see if they can bend/weld the pipes accordingly I'm clueless...

Thanks again!
