Ford Guy Test Driving a 3500 Cummins!
Hi folks, test driving a 2005 2wd dually quad cab with a Cummins for the weekend, WOW, what a engine! Thought I would jump on here and get some feedback on how this "beast" will handle the snow, more specifically, towing a big sled trailer through the slop. Only has 60,000 on it and is a real gem. Had a 2004 Ford 6.0 for 4,000 miles and the engine crapped out.......imagine that, what a pile. Hope to garner some good info on here from all you knowlegable "Rams"!! Thanks in advance, Mike

Hi and welcome.

Lets get straight to it, the cummins 5.9 is one of the best motors ever put in a pickup. You will be thrilled with it. Now let answer your question, 2WD and snow??? I know a couple hotshot drivers who navigate in the snow well with them but for the most part 2WD is a bad idea if snow is one of the primary conditions you will be driving in.

Hope this helps and hope the truck works out for you!

With a load over the rear tires, the 2WD should do just fine as long as you drive reasonably, just like any 2WD will. The 3500 is a fine truck and it's heavy so it will do well in the slippery stuff.

You'll like the grunt of the Cummins for towing. At 60K miles, it's just about broken in. ;)
