Buy 2009 or 2010 Sport Crew 4x4 in Canada

Hi Everyone,

I was looking at the 2010 Ram Sport Hemi Crew cab 4x4 in Canada, but found out that the incentives on the 09's are far better right now...including low interest financing and huge cash incentives combined.

Is there anything very different about the 2010 that would make me want it over the 2009. I read about the IPOD cable in 2010 versus 2009 but don't really care about that if it isn't there. I'm looking at the 3.92 gears...are the 09's and 10's on an equal footing regarding there pavement ripping abilities?

One other thing to consider is that I believe the '09 has a lifetime powertrain warranty, the '10 does not.

Comparable specs? I believe so.

A buddy at work got a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab Laramie and I got the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab Laramie with a few extra options. He was able to get the $6000 rebate, I got $3500. The 2010 does have the IPOD connection in the glove box, the 2009 does not. His 2009 doesn't display the ECO/Fuel Saver icon like mine does when ever the MDS kicks in. Also his EVIC display doesn't show as many things as in the 2010. His 2009 didn't come with a locking tailgate and I read that if the truck was made before December, then that's the reason. Because after December they come with the locking tailgate.

Other than those few differences, they are basically the same truck. I think the most important thing is the locking tailgate. But if you can still find an 2009 and get a $6000 rebate, then go for it. I looked and looked and I coudln't find any 2009's that had the black interior and either the red, blue, or black exterior. I could have gotten a 2009 silver with tan leather....but I wouldn't have been so happy.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I should grab an 09 if I can find what I am looking for.

09's are great trucks also . Sounds like it's gonna be a decision you have to make .

The ipod cable is available for the 09. Although there is better ipod integration onthe 2010 radios. The dealer can install the cable for you if you don't want to do it yourself.
82211263AC, 82212000, 82211853 See Dealer to find out which one for your truck. $30-$75 USD

The locking tailgate is about $30 USD for the parts to upgrade it and very easy to do.

I installed a power lock on mine last week $157 CDN. (the is an option on the 2010) I will do a write up once I figure out how to post pics within the thread and not at the bottom of the thread. This will be posted in the '09 section.

The biggest thing is finding one with the options you want. I wish I had waited a couple week and got a 2010 to get exactly what I wanted. but I'm still very happy with my 09

Hey iRockCrawler, could you give me some info on that power tailgate lock? Are you talking about a Dodge/Mopar lock or an aftermarket? I saw an one on a website but I'm not too technical and seems like a little too complicated to install.

The lifetime powertrain warranty was a huge selling point for me purchasing the 09 versus waiting for the 10's to come out. Buy the 09 if you can find exactly what you are looking for.

Unfortunatly us Canadians didn't get the lifetime warranty, it was only you US guys.

It's a mopar lock. I will do the writeup with part numbers, lots of pics on the weekend.. been working 12hr shifts all week.. only working 8hrs on sat,sun so I will have more time. LOL

It was not hard to do at all. Although the instructions had some errors with the wire colors which I will post in the how-to
