Some guidance on products needed.

I just bought a 2005 1500 quad cab. Love the truck. But need to start detailing it. I went out to walmart and advance auto to buy some detailing products. I have been reading alot, but none of the products listed online are avaiable in stores besides meguiars products. So I bought mostly meguiars.

Heres my arsenal so far.

Meguiars cleaner wax
Meguiars gold class wax
Meguiars smooth surface clay bar kit
Meguiars gold class car wash
Meguiars scratch X
Plus random cleaning accessories(waterblade, mit, applicator pads)

So how do these products look and what order should I do them? My plan was to wash, scratchx, clay bar, wash, ploish(need recomandation) and wax(as many times as i can that day)

Can somone tell me the purpose and when to use the cleaner wax? A friend gave it to me and never told me how to use it.

You might want to go to the site that I'm using for reference on detailing my truck. They sell a lot of products that are too pricey for my taste but they have an excellent section on How-to's with guides and videos.

www.autogeek.net

Also if you go to the Mcguiar's website, they have videos also as well as Mothers wax.

I've never used the clay but I think if you use the scratch-x and then clay, it will remove the scratch-x. You might want to look at the autogeek guide on ClAY BAR usage.

I'm sure other's will give you some advice.

You're welcome. I know what you mean about the autogeek site. But I do like all the videos they have. Here's the link to Mothers wax How to section.

 Hey what up.......... Ive never used a clay bar myself. Not even sure what the hell its for to be honest. I love the Mcguires products. Your list looks pretty good. Start with the car wash (obviously) then the ckleaner wax.......then the scratch x ......then the gold class wax. Just my opinion ..dont know squat about a clay bar. This is how id do it but im not a expert. It just seems to me the right stages. Wash the truck...clean the truck.. scratchx it .....wax it. Good luck.

I would wash , then clay bar , then cleaner wax , then wax it . Not sure what the scratch x is . Looked on their site and couldn't find it . By the way Meguiars web site has an excellent how to do section . If you have any questions , you should check it out .

Tom, here's the link to the Scratch-X in case you are curious. http://meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+G10307

Bones64, I've never used a clay bar either but it's used to take of anything that's stuck to the paint like tiny bug parts, dust particles, and other "impurities." Stuff that doesn't come of after you wash your truck.

Sounds like a mild polishing compound .

I called meguiars tech department. numbers on the back of every bottle. I told them what I had and asked how to use it all. He said the cleaner wax is more of a quicker fix. Its for someone who doesnt have time to use swirl x or scratch x. He told me not to bother using it.

He told me the order to use the products is this. wash, clay, swirl x over entire truck, scratch x over deeper scratchs, then a polish, then the gold class wax.
