Headlights and running lights wont work at the same time, but work Indivdually???

So as the title says I have an electrical problem with my 1998 1500.

Heres the issue,

I can get the running lights/fog lights to work with the headlight switch in the running light position which is normal. howerver....

With the running lights on, I can push the combo switch on the colum and get high beams, but this is the only time i can get the running lights/head lights to come on at the same time.

when I pull the switch to headlights, ALL running lights go out and the headlights go on... NOT NORMAL

So I have already tried two new headlight switches from two different stores and neither has solved the issue. What am i missing here.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!

Thanks,
Ken

 Im not sure here.:thk: Your running lights are daytime running lights. They will go off when your headlights are turned on. Your fog lights will work if your daytime lights are on or headlights. This is what i know. My 2003 fog lights will go out if i turn on the high beams. Just realized this awhile ago. This is normal Ken i believe. Unless im not really understanding your problem. I had a 1999 once im sure it works the same as 2003?:thk:

So your fog lamps only work in the park light position and not with the headlamps on in the high or low beam setting?

when im reffering to running lights im talking about the side marker, tail and front amber lights.

so i currently can have one of two things when it comes to lights.

1. running lights and fog lights but no headlights (unless i physically hold the bright light switch)

OR

2. headlights only with no running lights

Ok, I'll check the diagrams and see what I can find. For reference, Chrysler refers to them as park lamps.

ok sounds great

and yes the fog lamps only work in the park lamp position not the headlight position

Check the lg/bk and the bk/yl wires at the back of the headlight switch. you should have power on both with the switch all the way on.

komodo1982 12-21-2009 02:29 PM

ok. I will try to get that done in an hour or so.

I have 12 volts on the LG/BK but ZERO on the BK/YL what do you get from that?
