Winter driving etiquette?

So here is the deal. As most of you know, moved from the big city with no seasons to the midwest that has seasons. This is my first full winter so I am a rookie and learning what I can (mostly from MADDOG.....thank you!!).

We got snow yesterday, back roads are snow covered and icy. Have been told to take it easy, go slow, no sudden movements, no problem, don't want Blue to get hurt.

Coming up to a 4 way stop, have a truck in front of me, turning right. I am a good two car lengths behind him, as he comes up to his stop and I am going 10-15 MPH creeping up behind him so I don't have to hit the brakes hard - anticipating the stop. I look in my rear view and there is a car coming up fast behind me, way too fast for road conditions. Truck in front of me executes his turn, I am coming up to make my stop. Look in my mirror again to see what idiot is doing and see his spin out right behind me! He ended up in the ditch on the east bound side of the road (I was going west) facing eastbound. Talk about karma!! Whew!!

So now here in lies my sort of dilema.....should have I gotten out to make sure he was ok? My attitude was he was going way too fast and would have rear ended me so why the hell should I? I took off as there were other cars there. Had I gotten out I would have told him that is what he gets for driving stupid!

What is, if any, the proper winter driving etiquette when things like this happen?

Personally, I would have pointed, laughed, mocked and taken pictures with my camera phone.

There are lot's of *******s on the road Stacy, most come out in the winter. Alot feel as if they can drive the same as they would in summer like conditions. Unfortunatly for the guy behind you, he didn't hit you, because you probably would have given him a black eye lol! But seriously, I know he was in the wrong for driving too fast, but yes, he did avoid hitting you by going into the ditch, probably saving you both alot of damage, and who knows, probably even both of you getting injured. I personally would have helped him. We all make mistakes, and the better one comes out doing the right thing by helping the person, regardless of how dumb they may be. Karma works both ways!
By the way, glad to hear you are all right Stacy! I thought I was going to hear bad news about you or Blue :(..but your ok! :)

Good Lord Stacy!! That is freaking cold! Like the weather we've been having! I drove through a blizzard yesterday, in one of the most scariest driving ventures of my life! I was glad to get my nephews back home to Toronto safely with there mom, and get back to my home as well! There were so many accidents! What usually takes 3 hours in a round trip, took me 5 hours. Roads got closed up near my place, and snowplows were called off the roads. I took my chance driving through a closed road with snow drifts almost 3 feet high:wow: It was actually pretty fun bashing through some of them lol! But still scary!
I can't wait till spring!!!

We are supposed to have below 0 weather by the end of the week. Paul, when we were talking and I said I wanted to experience the seasons, why the hell didn't you hit me up side the head?????

MightyBlueRam 01-04-2010 09:46 PM

Ok so he was driving like a jerk but I think I might have stopped and made sure he was ok. Some people are clueless and others are just jerks. Don't sweat it BlueJet, nothing you can do about it now.
