Battery probs
Hey all I went to start my truck about 4 days ago after it had been sitting for about two weeks and it wouldnt start or even turn over. I jumped it off and check the battery and it was reading fine. I havent tried starting it since and went out today to start it and its doing the same. It doesnt have enough battery strength for my power locks to work. I checked the battery level again and its only reading 6 volts. Why is this? The battery is fairly new.

Have you checked for a key off draw with a DVOM? Did you bring the battery back to a full charge with a charger the last time?

I agree, jump starting it probably wont cut it, gonna need to put her on a charger

Oh I dont have a charger and as you can tell, dont know much at all about vehicles. We just jumped it off. What does advance auto usually charge to charge a bat?

dodgeman70592 01-19-2010 02:35 PM

digital volt/ohm meter, and they shouldnt charge ya anything I wouldnt think

A key off draw is power being drawn off the battery with the key in the off position. An example would be leaving something plugged into your lighter that stay on all the time.

I do have a GPS that stays plugged in all the time. I used the reader thing and it is reading a lil over 6. I also added some water to the battery

If the GPS stays on all the time, that could be your problem.

Shouldnt the lighter plug be switched 12v Randy?, I know it is in mine. But I also have a separate 12v source outlet down in the lower part of the dash that is constant
