Details the engine today
Have a few days before the next work project begins, so I was bored and decided to detail the engine on a whim. Sprayed everything down with simple green (biodegradable degreaser anyone?), let that soak, sprayed again and wiped everything down. I don't have a water source, so this is a water free detailing BTW. After wiped all the grease/dirt away with shop towels, LIBERALLY sprayed Mother's Protectant, and let soak for 5 min before I wiped it up and re-applied. I made sure to get all the plastic/rubber, and that included rad hoses, intake manifold, shrouds, and pressure lines; even did the wiper cowl while I had the hood up. Was pretty happy with the results, can you tell I've been driving daily in a mucky winter?

Anyone know what I can do to get rid of the oil reservoir breather tube? Can I use a tube and filter and be done away with it?

Nice job. I'm always impressed when looking at a car and the engine bay looks like that. Keeping things clean like that makes it so much nicer to work on, and it allows the heat to dissipate easier.

Thanks guys, surprised at how easy it was to do too. took an hour and a half tops, so not a bad way to start a day.

Bones, in the 3rd pic, it's the dark grey tube that runs from the motor oil reservoir to the air intake, my assumption is that it stops any vacuum from building up in the reservoir as the level fluctuates.

i have a feeling tht is used as a oil breather tube. it should be fine if you block off the intake hole and put a filter on the breather.
