auto to standard

ok i have a 97 ext cab 1500 2 wheel drive. i wanna convert it to standard. did dodge make a 5 speed truck 318 that came standard? has anyone done this swap? any info will really help. is the clutch peddle set up hydralic or cable? i really want a 5speed. 6 speed would be awesome too but im on somewhat of a budget.

Dodge definately rolled some off the line with sticks, i own a 98 318 with a 5 speed, i to am lookin for 6-speed tranny due to the fact my factory tranny is busted

thanks for the info bro. i owned an 04 4.7 with a stick and it felt way peppier. so i want to go 5speed manuel. i also would like a 6speed but where would you get one that would bolt up?

All I can say on this is yes, they did have 318's with a manual, my '81 started out that way, but we did the opposite conversion taking it to an automatic....definitely an undertaking going to a manual from an auto, but good luck with this and be sure to keep us posted on how it goes!

That sounds like A LOT of work with out much of a gain..

Hey, I've got a truck identical to yours but mine is a regular cab, and I've also been kind of curious as to how well one of these swaps would go. It would be alot of work, but i've driven a couple 5.2's coupled to five speeds, and the 5 speed is definitely a huge improvement on the auto.

I had a V-6 5spd and swapped in a 5.2, ran into a little trouble finding a flywheel. What I ended up doing was prying the crank sensor ring off the v-6 flywheel then indexing and bolting a 5.2 flexplate to the backside of the flywheel using the torque convertor bolts. Once drilled tapped and bolted I simply cut the center out of the flexplate with a zipdisk on the die grinder. Bingo flywheel with 5.2 crank sensor ring, put about 50000km on it since then works great.

I have a 1999 Ram Sport 5.2 that was a stock 5 speed, I love it it has a HURST shifter and the clutch was replaced at about 100k and is still mint.
