Fiat to spin off truck lines, keep cars and Chrysler

April 21st, 2010 by Bill Cawthon
In a move that caught many industry-watchers by surprise, Fiat will keep its automotive operations and spin off its Iveco large truck and Case New Holland businesses into a new entity, Fiat Industrial S.p.A. Analysts had expected the car business to be separated.
Instead, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said Chrysler will be further integrated into the Italian company’s automotive and light commercial vehicle lines
“We have found in Chrysler the perfect partner and we have been able to agree on some very basic principles. It is a dream that I have had since 2004,” Marchionne said.

Sounds to me more like Chrysler is just getting absorbed, gulp, rather than being any sort of "partner".....

Well, since the government holds a majority stake in the company and the only other significant owner, at 25% with an option for twice that much under the bailout deal, is Fiat I'd say they have been assimilated.

I work for Chrysler as well, even more closely with the folks from Fiat as we are producing the 1.4l engine that will go in the Fiat 500's. Trust me they are not interested in what Chrysler wants or needs.

I just don't believe that Fiat would try to get rid of dodge or dodge trucks specially with some of their recently successful models. For example, the Challenger, Ram, and Charger.
