'97 poor brake performance...help

two feet on the pedal and cannot make it skid...what to check? Front pads are at 80%, rear drums not sure; fluid ok. Mechanic said it is normal...no way. Note that I am helping my sons friend (16) who has already rear ended two other cars...truck will not stop.

Thanks

What does the pedal feel like? High and hard (get your mind out of the gutter Paris) or low and spongy? A hard pedal indicated a bad brake booster and a low pedal could indicate a leak, air in the system, bad rubber lines, caliper or cylinder problems, rear drums misadjusted or a bad master cylinder.

high and hard...no matter how hard you push the pedal...

Definately a bad brake booster or you've lost the vacuum source to it.
