Shudder under a load

Just had a real bad shudder in driveline while hauling a load of landscape rocks (500lbs) to the house. 1st gear a little rough, but when I went into 2nd..OMG what is that? I thought the driveshaft was going to drop! I actually stopped and looked underneath because i though something was rubbing. So, I have nursed it home (it eased up as I gained a little speed, still bad @ takeoff). My thoughts have been : U-joints; clutch; rear end; maybe drive shaft?
As always thanks for the advice!!!!

I'd start by dropping the drive shaft and checking the u joints for binding, looseness and lack of lubrication.

If its dropped, is there a pinion shim in it?! I am thinking if its lowered a little, and it had a big load, there was some major misalignment/binding.

500 lbs isn't much weight. Definately look at the U Joints. I had one go bad in my truck, however it started to vibrate at high speed. Aftermarket ones have grease fittings as a rule, also.
