Custom Cam
Alright I am new to the whole Cam swap thing and do not know too much about them. I am looking for a Cam that sounds great such as the SRT Max cam but i will also be driving long distances with it. Does a large Cam have any impact on long road trips? Let me know what you know.

If you want to do a cam, you need to look at if you want to do any custom tuning. You can get some mild grinds that don't require tuning, or you can get a larger separation and get better performance at the expense of mileage. On a long road trip with a wilder cam you'll definately be stopping more often for fuel as the MPGs do drop off.

..tell us a little more about your truck..rc or qc? any other mods on her now? what mods planned for the future? like cd said, do you want it to be custom tuned (or require it to be?)..what gears, tire/wheel combo?

all this talk about MPG dropping off. i was running the spartan cam, with a set of inertia srock vavle heads, high stall conerter 4.56 gears, and al the supporting bolt on's and i was able to keep 18-19 MPG on the highway. and about 14-15 in town. the loss you will see is so slight that there is no need to worry about it. a road trip with a cammed truck is nothing i drove it 700 miles one way to visit chefred112, and it ran great. he returned the favor a few months ago and made it down here. and i dont think he had any problems. (untill the trans took a dump. btw fred i cant wait to get your truck up and running again with my trans.)

hehe looks pretty straight forward...unhook lines, remove connectors, unbolt an remove trans member support, unbolt drive shaft, unbolt from engine side...drop it..
