How do you tell...
So when you are looking at the receiver on your truck, how do you know if it is a Class III, IV or V?

Usually the bottom of the receiver tube, or the frame, is stamped with the class.

Kinda thought that would be the case. Just went outside to double check again and carefully look all over again, but find nothing other than probably a part number, 37/C7. Now there is a plate (part of the whole receiver assembly) under the receiver tube that might be covering up anything stamped on the bottom of the actual receiver tube.

This is supposedly stock on a 2008 Ram 1500 Hemi Sport with the two package, but the class seems to be hidden on this receiver.

Most 1/2 trucks come with a class III if equipped with a receiver hitch.

Measure your receiver tube. If it's 2", it's at least a Class III.

Class I & II have a 1.25" tube.

Class III & IV hitches have a 2" tube.

Class V's have a 2.5" tube.

I doubt you have a Class IV as that is overkill on a 1/2 ton and you normally find those on 3/4T and 1T trucks.

my Ram came with a class 4 hitch receiver

if you have a Uhaul store near you, they can tell you what yours is

Interesting. I'll see if the local Uhaul can confirm which mine is. In my reading I haven't come across what makes a 3 a 3 and a 4 a 4. Be interesting to know what you 'd have to do to a 3 to make it a 4 (not that I'm thinking of doing it, but it would be interesting to know).

I'm not a pro, but I believe that anything over 6,000 GVWR is class IV but I will defer to experiance.

Yeah, I was gonna say, I have a class IV receiver on mine as well. I thought a class III was a "bumper pull"? But the '08 with tow package should come with a class IV.
