Home Defense Suggestions - Home Invasion
So a psycho breaks into my house in the middle of the day today while I'm home no less. Like an idiot I go charging into the master bathroom where I'm hearing noise and come face to face with the 6 foot 4 230 pound nutter (I'm 5 foot 6). He's standing in my bathroom holding a red tube of lipstick and has scrawled some bizzare message on the mirror.

I tell him to get the freak out of my house and he walks out the bedroom and out the back of the house like he's in no hurry, like he lives there holy cow!

So obviously as I sit here at 3am unable to sleep with every light in the house on I'm contemplating buying some type of home defense. I'm single and live alone but I have neighbors. I don't want something thats going to shoot through a wall into a neighbors house. But I do want something that would instantly drop some creep like that and keep them down until the police arrive.

Police arrived within 5 minutes, soon after there were 6 officers at my house and more cruising the neighborhood trying to find this creep. K9 officer said it seems like he booked out the back throught he rear neighbors yard and got in a car on the other street and left.

Man its been a freakish day. I live in FL by the way and they seem to have open gun laws, I think you can buy tasers here.

most break ins do happen during the day. FL, you can own tazers, however, you are not allowed to carry them. So, as long as it was kept in your house then it would be fine.

To be honest though, a handgun would work fine. A 9mm isn't going to go careening through a couple walls, it'll stop, and, it'll stop a person quick fast and in a hurry and not go very far after it leaves.
Hell, even a .22 caliber pistol would work great. That will stop when it hits something, and most likely wouldn't go through someone. Would put a helluva hurting on them.

But, you're nice to just want to detain them until the police arrive. If someone were to break into my house, I'm sorry, that'd be the last thing they did. Only good criminal is a dead criminal :p

Where abouts in Florida are you?

Yikes  now that's a heck of a story, sorry to hear that happened to you! I got broken into several times, they started with my vehicles and then the house, all during the day, but I wasn't home at the time. They made off with my small 9mm, which has since been replaced, haha, but even though I didn't live alone at the time, I did work offshore and so was gone a lot. My first solution....we got a big dog with a very loud bark! Most people don't mess around then. Good luck to you but I sure know what it feels like to have your space invaded like that, and it sucks! :(

I agree with Cajun. Get a big dog. Dogs are great companions and it will protect you.

Theres nothing wrong with anklebitters too! Anything that will make noise.

Get the biggest handgun that you can ACCURATELY/Comfortably shoot. A hit with a .22 is better than (5) misses with a .45. Also, make sure that you are mentally prepared to USE it when/if you get it out. If you pull a gun thinking that will scare them away and it doesn't, the chances of the gun being used against you go through the roof!

I prefer large dogs. If that doesn't work for you, for close quarters and some serious punch, here's what ya need:

Double "0" buckshot stops 'em...

MADDOG is on the right track when it comes to home defense. Racking a round into a shotgun has a very detrimental effect. It means I am getting ready to to kill your ass.

My little ankle bitter is totally worthless as a guard dog.

All you need is a puppy . Heres mine .

And they are safe for your neighbors.

Not to mention the affect on the perp when they see that big, round opening pointed at them.

However, I strongly suggest you look into your local laws, understand your rights and liabilities in these cases and get some formal training on how to use your firearm.

Just having one doesn't mean you know how, and when, to use one.
