Apparently hand washing your truck is bad and should only be done by professionals.......what do you think?
Personally I like handwashing just for the pure relaxation......if you call it that.

I suppose in the strictest sense, they're right. But what guarantee do you have that your local professional establishment is using higher pressures or volumes of filtered water, proper techniques and isn't reusing a gritty wash mitt from another vehicle on your ride?

Can't say as I necessarily agree with that, either, and along Randy's line of thought, no guarantee they're doing a good job and not just trying to move on to the next one. I'll wash my own truck, quality time with your vehicle, great way to spend the day, IMO!

I have a tendancy to agree, but it does make you think. I would rather save the money and do it myself. I could see having it done once every two years though, after all what's it cost $100-$150?

You can take measure to decrease the potential for clearcoat damage by making sure your wash mitt is clean, you use good soap and that you completely rinse the vehicle, then dry it quickly.

You won't have that problem as long as you carry a good coat of wax on it .

I have detailed cars off and on for the past 5 years or so. I never used a mit on more than one vehicle. Kept 5 or 6 on hand and washed all mits and drying towels and such everyday. Quality products and TLC will extend the life of your finish. Anyway I guess for the way most "professional" folks work hand washing could be bad....but nothing is as scary as those fund raiser car washes...Gladly give $$ for them not to wash:str:

i only wash my truck, i dont want people steeling things out of it, ya there cleaning it cleaning it out

I do not agree with that. If you use the proper stuff you should be alright. If you have a grit separator in your bucket and a good sponge you should be alright. If you have water you have water, that part did not make sense to me. Just buy a pressure washer and do it at home then.

Car washes never get it clean so that is bs!

MightyBlueRam 06-06-2010 03:19 PM

That article seems a little skewed. Sure some people use horrible techniques when washing their cars but to say that no one should was their own car and take it to a professional is a little too extreme.

What exactly do they mean by professional car wash? And tremendous amounts of water? Cloth pads and curtains? Are they talking about those automatic car washes at the gas station? They don't really explain in too much detail.
