04-06 Dodge ram Hemi. Fuel economy,

Hey guys i'm in the process of purchasing a truck. i'm either going to get a cummins or a Hemi. If i get a Hemi it will be 04-06 most likely. was just curious what type of gas mileage they get? what performance parts you have done and what kind of fuel economy you get??

any information will help.

thanks brett

That depends a lot on whether or not it's a 4X4, standard cab or larger, rear gear ratio, etc...

What specific model are you looking at?

Your gonna find in the hemi better fuel mileage in the 06 then prior models because of mds and newer developements. But if u can afford the cummins i would definatley do that. What i always say if your concerned about mileage a dodge ram hemi or pick up truck in general is not the vehicle for you!.

prolly 4x4 04-06, and trust me i know gas mileage isnt the most important thing. but just kinda curious of how big the difference is in the 4.7, hemi, and cummins. is just another factor in deciding which ram i will choose

Don't know if this is helpful but here it is for comparison purposes:

2007 Ram MegaCab, 5.7L HEMI, 3" lift, LT325/60RX18 tires, 3.73 gears:

Around town 11.3 - 11.9 MPG

Empty haul @ freeway speeds 13.3 - 13.8 mpg

I have an '05 regular cab, short bed, hemi, 4x4 and drive mostly hilly 65 mph two lane highways and very little around town and for a 2 year real world average I get 13.23 MPG it has been as high as 19.61 MPG running on the interstate across the desert and salt flats bad thing is Utah on average has the 3rd highest fuel prices in the nation and lately it costs around 75.00 dollars to fuel up. I'll drive my Hemi until I can't afford too!

I have a '06 4x4 Hemi Quad cab all stock other than the K&N so far...of course stock 20" wheels and MDS...I'm getting 16-17 driving country roads to and from work. Takes about 70-75dollars to fill up. City driving I cant say since I dont do much city driving. When I went to Decatur Illinois I drove all city and showed 14mpg but that was only 2days worth of real City driving. On the trip down the highways going to Illinois I got 21avg mpg running 75mph. These trucks are sweet, but I'm still a diesel fan lol.

you also have to realize that the mega cab doesnt have mds. In my 06 4x4 crew cab i get about 14 mpg city and 18-20 my record is 23 on the highway. I drive fairly lightly too and when you start putting your foot down you do notice. Just to put a few things in perspective for ya man. Definatley get a ram tho and good luck with your purchasing.

I looked at diesels when I got my truck. I bought mine in 2007, and at that time the sticker of most 2500 diesels was about $10,000 more than a 1500 hemi. Also at that time they were discounting 1/2 tons almost $10,000 less than sticker, not so much on the diesels. I get anywhere between 13 mpg and 20 mpg depending on how much in town driving I do.

This same trend seems to carry over to the used market also. Expect to pay at least $10,000 or more for a used diesel than a 1/2 ton hemi. $10,000 buys a lot of fuel. If you use the truck hard and tow a lot, a diesel will pay for itself over time.

All this said, I would LOVE to have a Cummings sitting in my garage.

I have an 08 and its not bad at all with the MDS, Its actually pretty close to what i get on my grand prix with a 3.8V6. That being said my truck is stock and babied my car is a tire shreader and no where near stock.
