No control of A/C

My a/c works very well, except for the temperture control. It seems like there is no mid point. I turn the temperature dial till the a/c shuts off, then warm air comes out. When I turn it back to colder, it's freezing. There is no mid point. So I'm wondering if the the temperature control is bad. It seems like some kind of reostat, as I turn it, it has clicks as it is turned. Please advise if anyone has had a simular problem.

What year is your truck? Different body styles use different control systems.

I wonder if the switch has some dust or carbon on the backside contacts.

For some reason it would seem the blend door isn't stopping at any midpoints, only full hot or full cold. The problem is I don't know if it's most likely a motor or the controller (knob).

I took the dash instrument cover off, and pull teh control. It looks like all one unit. Not sure, can it be taken a part to even check the contacts for carbon build up? Plus where would I find the "door" that is suppose to modulate between the flow of cold and hot? So ther is some kind of motor on it?

The blend door is in the HVAC unit and the dash and box have to come out for access.

To get the doors, the dash and steering column have to be removed first. Then the HVAC unit needs to be removed from the firewall.
I just went thru this to replace a broken coupling that is between the blend door actuator and blend door.
The door was stuck with the heat on.
