2500 v10 exhaust diagrams ??

I am doing some exhaust work on my 99 dodge 2500 8.0 when I went under to inspect I found as you v10 people know the two 2 1/4" pipes running from each manifold then side by side under the right side into (2) 3" inlet 3" outlet cats then both left and right cats going into one dual inlet muffler single out 3" tail pipe. It just dont look right to me can I go (true) dual and exit both out the same side. would I gain more hp and lose torque. yah and about the pipe size is that what it should be or did someone mickey mouse I am not the first owner thats why I am asking for help and advice
Thanks
ANDY

yessir, mine had two cats with a single outlet muffler, 3 inch tail pipe, needless to say, the muffler was replaced with a flowmaster 40 series and duals added out the back lol

My 2001 V10 Has straight pipes (stock) from the manifolds to 2 cats and then into the storage tank (I mean muffler)....I decided that was too much metal, so off came the cats and the muffler and on went two thrush (cherry bomb) mufflers...I did have to add some pipe..it was 2 and one quarter sleeve with a 2.5 (24") extension. The thrush were 2 and one quarter in diameter. I added 45 degree turndowns. I am alittle disappointed that the 318 in my 96 sounded better than this exhaust setup considering it was the same parts used.

well thats because V10's have a very different very odd sound to them...I recently just cut out my cats and put in a flowmaster 50 series muffler, the muffler is dual inlet single outlet and I kept the stock pipe...I dont know why but I really liked the way the stock pipe looked coming out the passenger side and wanted to keep it...but with the set up I have the truck now kind resembles a Cummins Diesel in the way it sounds, I'd definitely recommend this as a good way to go. Heres my thread on it incase you were curious as to how the truck sounded.
