Damn texting, suspended licensed driver...

New member, hope someone can give me a little info...
I am look for some help for my fathers 96 dodge ram ext cab. As the title suggest, he got into an accident with afformentioned person who was doing a u-turn infront of him and was so engrossed in her phone (she claimed GPS, just as bad to me) she didn't even look up. Long story short, front bumper, passenger front fender and head lamp are jacked and he only has basic insurance. I took a brief look and it looks like bolt on parts. Does anyone know how easy these parts are too remove and replace (probably w/ junkyard parts). Any info or instructions would be great! Thanks so much.

Besides having some twisted fasteners (an air chisel will help a lot with that) these are pretty easy.

Local junkyards may have what you need for the larger sheetmetal pieces. If you need small parts, fasteners and stuff like that, check out LMCTruck.com.

Thanks for the info, would auto shops carry the fastener type stuff (places like Murrays/Checkers, autozone, etc) cause whenever I do automotive work, it seems like there is something I miss and have to go back to the store for.

Some might but I don't have their inventory handy with me. :D

I'm thinking some of the small trim pieces, corner lights, major fender/bumper/body fasteners would all be available at LMC. Some of the smaller fasteners are standard bolts available even at your local hardware or homecenter stores.

You don't have their inventory?!?! I am disapointed!!!! :). But really, I appreciate your help and recommendation for a place to get these pieces. I do not know if he will fix it or not, He is a tradesman and wants his vehicle to look respectable, but can't really afford to pay to get it fixed or let alone a new truck. He has another truck (97 f150) that looks ok for a work truck but the Dodge is in somewhat better running shape, plus the AC works. If we fix it, we won't know exactly what small parts need replacement till we get the panels off and I was just wondering of places I could get these parts quickly. I suppose if we decide to do it we could take it apart see what parts we need, order them from your suggested site and then finish the repair once we recieve the parts. Thanks again bro!

Man, sure sorry to hear about that and I won't get into my opinion of cell phones/texting while driving, lol, but guess my only question is, why isn't her insurance covering this? Not being nosy, just curious, but best of luck to ya' in finding what you need and getting it fixed quickly! Welcome to the forum, too! :)

Any pics of the damage ? Hows your dad feeling ? Insurance company may total it if it's to expensive to fix . If so , consider on buying it back and fixing it . Most of the time you can make out pretty good by doing this . Don't let the insurance company screw ya over . A little pain and suffering goes along way .

Show me the photo :) Most of us here can tell you whats gonna need fixed and where you can find it too. My truck was wrecked when I bought it and found the parts are needed fairly easily

Well as for insurance, I am unsure if her insurance will even cover it. 1st reason is that although it was HER fault, my dad only has no fault insurance (PLPD, basic, etc) so I am unsure if they will cover it, he hasn't called AAA yet, but he plans on doing so to see if they will force her insurance to pay (he has the police report, so hopefully that will help, they took her away in handcuffs!). 2nd, even if AAA will make her insurance pay, she wasn't even supposed to be driving, her license was suspended and insurance companies arn't too big on insuring unlicensed drivers, even if the car wasn't hers, the owner is responsible to make sure only licensed drivers operate the car. In this case he would most likely need to file a lawsuit, and I know my dad isn't going through that hassle on a 14 year old truck with 150K.

Anyways, here are the pictures that were requested. Forgive my lounge pants, I was letting my inner dark knight out.:)

LOL...nope, sorry...they do have a great website and you can peruse their catalog online. It has exploded view drawings so you can see each part and fastener needed with a corresponding identifier in the pics to the part number listing.

I say fix it and I think your plan is a good one. Tear it down, determine what ya need, go get it and put it right.
